Thanks to all who replied about my speedometer inquiries. Following some of the advice I received, I took apart my speedo and did my own odometer "refurbish" last night using some spare parts from a broken speedo I had lying around. I hope that it holds this time. The axle for the main odometer had worked itself loose despite multiple attempts to realign it. This time I used a little Loctite inside the gear, so we'll see if it holds. I also reset the odometer to 0, since it all had to come apart anyway. Drove it around a bit to make sure I had the speedo calibrated correctly (+/- 1 mph according to the GPS). If this repair doesn't work, I've got a few leads for other options. FWIW, it's cool to see my van "without" any miles on it. -Jarrett '89 Westy |
