OK, here is a link to a picture of the diesel and air cooled linkage for 80-83 Air Cooled Vanagon and also 82 Diesel Vanagon (later diesel had a similar shift linkage to the water boxer although they were slightly different). http://www.bus-boys.com/shifter83.html

I did find the boot in the picture finally after years of searching for it. I am still trying to track down the other parts in this picture for a customer. If anyone has any leads please let me know. New or used would be fine.

It is not helped by people like me who respond about 82 linkage boots with "I have an 83 ... also!".. :) Actually I have an 82, I don't know why I responded that way. If you look at his original link to the diagram, in the link text it says 1987. The diagram is for an '82. Like I said, lots of confusion. > > Alan > > --- On Wed, 4/15/09, syncro@gmail.com <syncro@gmail.com> wrote: > > > From: syncro@gmail.com <syncro@gmail.com> > Subject: Re: Shift Linkage Boot for 1982 Diesel Westy > To: "AD Felder" <dieseldoofus@yahoo.com>, "Vanagon List" <vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM> > Cc: ryanatanner@googlemail.com > Date: Wednesday, April 15, 2009, 8:24 PM > > > «Ben - that is not the correct boot. That one is for further forward on the rod assembly, and I think is for later years as well.
