Subject: FS: used 2.1 engine mated to auto trans. in CT $350
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"

I have for sale a 2.1 engine and auto trans combo that is currently in a 1989 Vanagon Carat. They're in a parts van that is otherwise picked clean. I bought the van to either use the engine as is when my 1.9 dies in my '85 Westfalia, or to have rebuilt and then put in the '85 to reduce downtime. But now I'd rather have a little cash and worry about a rebuild when it is really necessary.

The van comes from someone on the Samba named Josh (VW_62, I think). He says it was running fine and had 120K on the van. The computer and distributor were gone, so I couldn't start it. I did connect the starter to my battery and did a dry compression test- it cranked slowly, and got 80-90 psi on all cylinders. I did not squirt any oil in the cylinders- I might do that to see if the pressure increases. So I'm not sure if the engine is really that worn, or it's because it was sitting so long, or what.

Anyway, that's what I know. I'd like to sell the whole unit for $350. They're still in the van now. I could take them out, or you can take the whole van and sell the carcass for scrap later.

I'm in northwest CT (06796).

Ed
