Having lived there, I can say you don't get to Port Townsend on the coast
hiway. It's inland a way from the rather remote Washington coast.
You usually get to PT going up the Hood Canel on Hwy 101 if coming from the
south, like from I-5 and Olympia say.
  Or if you're in Seattle,.....you get to PT via ferry.
Zotan is up that way and sounds like it could work out nicely for you.
I 'might' rent a vanagon, I have a dozen or so , but I'm in Southern Oregon
, about 10 hours from PT.
Just remember the two key words about Western Washington ................
"visiting" and "summer."

Where are you located?  I've often thought of flying out west, renting
a Westy, and cruising up the coast highway, culminating in a week at
the Port Townsend Festival of American Fiddle Tunes....
