a question.

did all this start right after you filled up the gas tank?

my bet is yes.

and if so, it's the vent hose connections on top of the tank leaking
gasoline.
the gas runs across the top of the tank toward the lowest point
(sounds like your bus is parked slightly tilted to the right side) and
drips off the tank there.
the cheese-stuff is most likely the waxoyl stuff vw sprayed all over
the underside of the bus in the factory ... it's corrosion protection.
