--snip-- Ordinarily towing is $25+- /year premium for each vehicle insured IIRC, so if you get the AAA type towing, etc. cancel the towing on your insurance or you are paying twice. Also, w/ your insurance towing, you have to pay for it & get reimbursed, but not w/ AAA, you just sign the receipt & pay nothing! --snip--

I've used my State Farm roadside assistance several times and have not had to pay anything before or after; I don't know off the top of my head what the limits are but I haven't hit them. It's a 'free' service (meaning of course that the cost is rolled in elsewhere) but it's not a line item you can cancel, afaict. I do, however, pay a little extra for the roadside assistance that comes with my cell phone plan, and as it has much stricter limits I would consider it the redundant and expendable plan out of the two but for the fact that they will tow any car that the plan member is with as long as the cell phone is there as well. The last time I used it they located my position and got the distance for the tow by computer... kinda weird, but that's the technology for you. When I bought my Vanagon the engine was partly out of it (not that you could tell by looking) but they towed it to my home no questions asked because I was sitting in it and I had my phone. I keep the plan for that reason; rental car, friend's car, whatever- doesn't matter, they'll cover it up to their limits. The insurance plan only covers the vehicles on the policy. Either way I haven't paid for a tow in better than ten years.

Cya, Robert
