I had a scraping sound at the wheel and a while back I actually took the steering wheel off to get access to the ignition switch. When I replaced the steering wheel, I did three things: I cleaned up all the pieces and contacts, I used electrical lube on the contacts, and I replaced everything according to instructions/specs in Bentley. I'm not sure which of these actually remedied the problem, but since then I've not had the scraping noise.
