Well, just the bracket on the sender that attaches it to the distributor was cracked, not the whole unit. Zip tie seems to keep it snug. Took it for a drive yesterday and again today and all power restored. Tied up the wires so the #1 and #2 dont touch anything or each other. Seems wires were probably arcing under stress. Wish I could have had someone sit in the back in the dark while driving like another list member suggested. All good now. Michael in San Antonio 91GL AT 'Gringo' 73 Beetle
