Tom, the bodies of the adjusters are nylon or something like it. They dry out and get very brittle, impossible to to remove and reuse if replacing the whole headlight unit. They go into the mounting hole and then twist and snap into place. They are not designed to be removed even though several people have reported that they have been successful at that. But when older they break just looking at them.
