Dunno bout those comments Neil mentions hearing from fellow travelers
regarding California vs Oregon state park campgrounds. I've found them to
be equal, in most cases. Maybe Neil's second hand info was more about
Northern Ca. state parks...There are some very very special state parks in
the southern part of that long long state...nice, friendly, well
maintained..
.Remember, California is 'in reality'...two distinctly different
states...Southern Ca and Northern Ca. The two halves often make fun and
war with each other over division of California's tax dollars, which right
now are inadequate to run their huge intrusive government..
If high desert solitude is apealing to you, you might consider taking US
50 across Northern Nevada. Billed as "the Loneliest road" it is starkly
beautiful..and you have to cross the desert somewhere, anyway....once across
the great basin to the east side of the Sierras in California or Nevada, you
have tons of great route choices.
