The TBD is a gear operated differential..The True "LSD" uses clutch plates to control traction. As the differences in wheel rotation happen, the clutch plates slip to keep things from binding. The TBD style LSD uses gears that sense and ramp from giving traction from one side to the other to give the side with most traction the most power. You can feel it in the snow trying to figure it out so to speak. I have the locker version in my Syncro for snow usage..It just works..Went up the ski hill one day without locking the decoupler, so it was just a 2wd esentially and I couldget her to slip, but with proper throttle control, made it without getting stuck. I am sure without it, i would have been pulling knobs to get me off the side of the road. And you should see how the similar discussions here at SdM have gone..Same results..slip on ice, then it straightens out and continues on...
