Subject: Re: VW Fox question (NVC)

I have a '93 Fox that I got with 113K(innacurate by about 10K). It now has 145K. I will say that I have only see about 3 other Foxes on the road since I bougth it, and I wonder where they all went to.

I suspect that many got junked because people could not figure out how to start them. They click the lap belt and still cannot get it started;they don't know that the sholder belt is the belt that has the electrical cut out for ignition.

I once saw one on ebay that was for sale that had "unknown mechanical issues(20K) and would not start(they said that it should start but they could not figure out why it didnt). A garage of some sort was selling it. In one of the pictures I could see the lap belt was buckled, so I suspect that they did not know Foxes and that the other belt needed buckeling up.

I like mine. Lots of power and shifts great. At 15 years and 120+K miles one can expect the usual parts need to be replaced. Other than that,no issues have shown themselves.

The cat converter is the same part number as early Vanagon.

My parking brake cable froze up and needed replacing(a bit*h).

Water pump was difficult, too. Access is the issue in the Fox.

Check for rust through on the front engine rails.

Starts and runs great.Waxes up great, too. Looks sharp.

There is a Yahoo Fox club, but no one goes there except for spammers.

Ebay is a good source for parts, including dem nice caps for da wheels.

Get a Bentley.
