I have the same set up as Frank and they are wonderful lights even with the 55/60 Watts. I would highly recommend protecting that investment with the plastic covers.
I purposely have set them pointing a little lower so that I do not blind the oncoming traffic for the low beams but the high beams really brighten up a long way ahead.
I also have the ProjectTzwo fog lights and that is a sweet set up.
... Oh yeah I did put lots of relays and beefed up the wiring too.

I have the ecodes on my van with 80/100 watt bulbs and the FOCUS
lexan covers for 3 ~ 4 years now. No melting no distortion and absolutely
the best lighting for a Vanagon. I can see and be seen on the darkest of
nights. Only the occasional wink from an oncomer when I forget to dim.

get no one brighting me at all.=A0 Do not run plastic covers on the
lights or they will not be happy due to over heating.=A0 I run 55 /
100s in mine so in town and low speed where I use the high beams the most
they are normal and a little extra umph on the highway with the 100W high
beams and the extra wind to cool them off.<<<<
