There is no rod that goes through the hinge, it's just plastic. One of the other posters said there's only a rod through the hinge in automatics.

I've done a temporary fix with the aid of two layers of asphalt roofing shingle and duck tape (quack, quack!) and sharp screws that are stuck into the pad under the carpet. Seems as solid as it was before - should hold until I can get a new pedal.
