Thanks to all who sent comments. It was installed Friday morning in under an hour. And installing in the rain is definitely not a problem, not here in Arizona, not now, anyway. In fact, it was so hot, I cleared the garage and parked the van in the center so he could work in the shade. He re-used the old gasket which was still pliable and in good shape, so shrinking shouldn't be a problem. There was no rust on the frame or the pinch-weld, but there was a thin layer of dried black material which looked like it might have been some kind of sealer. And no one asked about "OEM VW" parts. The only part is the windshield, made by Safelite, but I am not sure where. It does have the darker tint strip across the top. So, I hope I have no leaks. And my subject line should have been "once I was blind, but now I see" or why did I wait 19 years and 189,000 miles? Jerry
