Well, if the dash does have to come off, it's really not that big of deal. After you've done it once, you'll not be feeling so challenged

again. After the first time, 2 hours tops to R&R. And it is an excellent time to clean up the other little things that are so much easier to do with it out of the way. (Clean up stereo wiring, lube heater cables, replace the wobbly accessory power outlet (cigar lighter) install headlight relays, etc, etc, etc.)

To remove, remove instrument cluster, heater control levers, unplug heater fan switches, remove heater control fascia, remove two screws that hold control levers to dash and one through the instrument cluster cutout, pull stereo, unplug above mentioned accessory outlet,

unhook glove box retaining strap, pull the 4 screws on the ends and the five or six small sheet metal screws under windshield, the steering column cover and remove the top 2 column retaining bolts (Security fasteners. Need small Vise-GripsŪ to remove and a pair of 8

mm x 1.25 x 25mm bolts to replace.) Loosen two lower column retaining

bolts and pull it out.

There's a video out there, but that's the Cliff's Notes of the operation. Installation is, as they say, the reverse of removal.
