You know I have to try now that you've said that. Theory is that the hose clamp squeezes the steel insert out of the plastic pipe like toothpaste out of a tube. Once the insert is squeezed out, the pipe collapses enough to allow the hose to slip off. GoWesty fix is to stick a brass insert in the hose, clamped in place right in front of the plastic pipe, so when the steel insert tries to "squirt out", it runs into the brass insert and can go no further. Very simple.

The stainless pipes are probably tougher, but how much of a beating do the pipes really take?
