The main trick is to remove the air box first so you can see better. Then, be logical, start by wiring, unplug everything you see around the engine and you masking tape to mark them. Second, remove fuel line, after remove AC and PS pump and hang them in the engine bay, next are remaining coolant line. Last is throttle body (2 screw) so you can access the starter bolt (1 of 4 bolt holding the engine to trany.

The 1.9 is very similar to the Air-Cool, just more cooling hoses. To get rid of coolant unplug the 2 main line on the left side: http://www.benplace.com/subaru/vanaru5.jpg

Most coolant will come out.

I use the same method as describe in the air-cool page for all engine, including Subaru.
