'vacuum florescent' ? - new one on me. what I like to do is get an old heated rear wiper switch, or whatever, and install it in the blank switch position to the right of the speedo and tack........... and use it as a true on/off switch, for stereos that would really rather have an accessory position on the ignition switch, which vanagons lack of course. having two batteries and the stereo wired to the aux/non-starting battery helps too of course. No stereo drain can affect the starting battery that way. I don't like current drain when things are supposed to be 'really off' very much. I don't know what the digital clock draws, but it can't be much.
