I am fairly confident (after years of chasing) that when I experienced this it was in the connection to the Temp II sensor. I replaced my sensor and all was well for a while and they I started having problems again - I pulled the connector off gave it a shot of WD-40 and it was fine. Now every now and then I have a problem - I just do the same thing and it will go away for months at a time. I'm sure it's in the wiring.
