there's also on the downshift too. You 'can' put the trans in 2nd gear at 65 mph if you want - the synchronizers will allow it ...... but if you let out the clutch .........instant 'blam !' .....................cause 60 mph in 2nd would be about 8,000 rpm or so.

Having seen numerous vanagon engines with what appeared to be connecting rod bolts just separated ..........and no explanation for it at all...... I tend to assocaite super higm rpm and any engine mechanical serious failures with failed connecting rod bolts, mainly.
