One of the joints, top or bottom I don't remember, must be installed
with the shaft in the position it needs to be in when it's pressed in.
For some reason I don't remember either, but will be obvious if the
parts are in hand, the shaft needs to fit a certain way. You can't
rotate it after it's pressed in without breaking the rubber grease
cover.
And no, autozone kits don't normally fit the vanagon knuckles.
