Well, I will answer my own question with this. It looks like its only a matter of time that dash GPS units will incorporate a video input to allow a back up camera to be installed. Giving you a wide angle view on the GPS screen. They can be wired to the back up light circut and can even be wireless to the camera.

Cool stuff!

I have a syncro buddy who really could have used this on a desert trip recently where he almost backed off the side of a road trying to take a new line on a climb.

Doug, with the traveling and tourism work that I do from my vanagon, the GPS (in my case a tomtom) is a permanent fixture. They are the best thing that ever happened to traveling on the road. I use mine about six times a day when I'm on the road. I never consult or print out maps, all I need is the name of the town or the address. Even tells me when I'm going to arrive.
