Regarding your radiator fan: mine finally gave up on low speed. It turned out to be the "relay" (I think it's more like a ballast, but Mark or someone else with more knowledge will know) was the culprit. My low speed fan was also a little noisy, and for whatever reason, replacing the relay eliminated that. I noticed that about my starter as well .... the hot wire on the solenoid was loose and it made starting sound like a dying battery. Wasn't! Once that connection was made firm, I now have a very healthy sounding/functioning starter. Electrical "stuff" can have weird symptoms. It also got rid of what I thought was a developing "hot start" problem, where the starter would barely turn over when the engine hot. Again, no more of those symptoms.By the way, I've done the same thing with that ground post .... My headlights are ground at the firewall just as Mark outlined, along with the radiator fan. Shorter ground wires seem to work better too. bob '87 Syncro Westy
