I had the headlight adjusters break on my 87 GL about 6 years ago. If I recall correctly, I went to Ace hardware and purchased a long skinny bolt (may have been a fine-thread screw) several nuts and several sizes of washers and sandwiched it all together, using the locking-nut method. It worked like a charm. All it takes is time and patience to get it right. Adjusters were available back then, but I didn't want to hold up a planned road trip waiting for them to arrive. I suppose necessity IS the mother of invention.
