Subject: Why does the fuel pump cycle twice?
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

Hi gang, I have a 1985 Vanagon that won't start. It ran well before I replaced the automatic transmission. Since I did that 2 years ago, I can't get it to start. It cranks over slowly. The battery runs out of charge quickly.

Then I discovered what I thought was the problem: The ground strap from the trans to the frame was missing! I forgot to put the ground strap on, something I normally would never overlook. But life was not very normal at the time, and had a lot or trouble with troubleshooting as well as solve some of the many car problems I have(which is of course because I have too many cars)

I installed a ground strap on, still not much improvement, cranks a little better, but still craps out after a minute.

I'm going to buy a new battery Monday, and if that doesn't do it, then swap out the starter for a good one I bought.

So here's the question again aboput the fuel pump: When I turn the key to ACC, the fuel pump cycles on and off like it should, but does it twice.

ANd when cranking , I can hear the pump is on full time. Thinking maybe it's the computer, I tried a spare. No difference.

So, I tried the spare in the 84 Vanagon, it works. Thanks in advance
