Dutiful Passage ('84 Westy) behaved the other way -- there was enough excess pressure in the engine compartment (going down the highway) to lift the (plastic) engine cover if it wasn't latched down. Note: this was probably without the splash tins fitted, no idea whether it makes a difference.
