I've gotten rear spring 'air bags' from the airlift company before....for about 70 bucks for the set, and they worked all right. Their listing online doesn't quite match vanagons exactly though........ and they didn't want to hear about it. but if you can get past that.......their 2WD vanagon rear air lift bags for a vanagon work just fine.

There is also the tire option. One 14 inch size that's nice on the rear if you are running 195/75 R 14's on the front .......is the 27 X 8.50 R 14 LT ....... those raise the back end a little, don't look overly large or out of place.......and raise the gearing a bit too, which almost never hurts on a vanagon . And it helps the cornering handling too........most deffenitley. I just sold an 83 westy with 195/75 r14 LT's on the front - a summer and rain tread design...... and 27 X 8.50 R145's on the rear .........on alloy wheels ........and that van .........I *wish* I could get the handling balance on my personal van, that that van had........so far havn't nailed the perfect front/rear combo for 15 inch wheels and tires..... but for 14's ..........the combo I'm mentioning here is really nice.......hanlding wise - perfect 'neutral handling just short of understeer' ........like you can really jam it cornering hard ........and the handling feel/balance is always 'right there' .......niether oversteer, nor typical terminal undesteer ......but 'just right.' scott turbovans ----- Original Message ----- From: "Karl Ploessl" <karl.ploessl@GMAIL.COM> To: <vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM> Sent: Tuesday, June 02, 2009 9:53 AM Subject: Re: Saggy Westy Rear

as Dave pointed out: Air Lift 60789 (AirLift 1000 units)

If you follow http://www.airliftcompany.com/online_catalog.html and look up by vehicle (Volkswagen-year 1988-vanagon) you can also find a setup for an onboard "leveling compressor kit" (if I recall it some people at the time of the group purchase (spring 2001) went with this setup) and "suspension load leveling kit".
