I spoke with bus depot and it sounded to me like new bolts with locktite on them is what they sell for $6.00 a bolt. Is there any reason I just can't use more Loctite on the existing bolt or does it need to be replaced? I assume that I want to use the blue stuff, not red. > > Any other tips for front pads? After tackling the rear drum brakes, I figure this will be a breeze. I'm going to replace both front hoses as well.

I am not sure if this applies to later model '86+ brakes, (as they might have antisqueal shims... no Bentley handy to check) but.....

I added antisqueal to:

pins where they meet (pass through) the pads pads where they meet the retainer clip metal edges on sides of pads (edges close to caliper. NOT bottom edges) back of pad.

Zero squeals and this w/o the stock shims (pre '86 type)

More details on what I did shown in last 2 pics. Note amount of antisqueal shown on back of pad, too thick IMO. Was thinned. Your caliper should be different, but pics should show how little I used at pins/pad holes.

Inspect entire caliper. Mine looked fine from above. View from below:

Again your calipers should be different, but I think it wise to inspect the whole enchilada.

If you choose to use Locktite, blue YES, red NO.

Enjoy!
