The way my insurance person explained it to me today... if we had reported THAT tree as a diseased or damaged tree (a 'danger' tree) and the owner did nothing and then when it fell the owners insurance would come into play. If it's just one of the 30 or so trees that are within range of the house or garage or whatever it's an "act of God".

FWIW if I'd had compressive on the '91 Jetta then my insurance would have had to deal with it, and the minor damage on the garage would be covered by my home owners insurance if I wanted to deal with the $500 deductible.
