The fittings need to be checked with soapy water after a "snug" tightening
and maybe tightened a bit more after soaping it down and seeing little

Neither flare fittings nor compression fittings require tape. Only threaded joint connections require tape or paste. I'm not sure where this information comes from, but I believe it to be incorrect. If someone can show me proof to the contrary, I will gladly eat crow on this one, but I'd like to see gas connections be safe.
