A good quality epoxy and some fiberglass fabric will repair that easily. If you need help please email me. I am familiar with this type of repair.

I still feel the same - maybe cut the stiffener to take up more of that space between the strip and the seal. Epoxy (24 hr), something flat on the outside, clamp.
