Relative to the price - my initial reaction too was that it was high - but I purposedly did not post the price to the list on my post about the repair because I didn't know how much time was spent, or if the shop did a few things, like timing the van or checking anything else out, like the points.

The price does include diagnosis. And as pointed out, they did drop everything and put these guys first in line. They are splitting the cost 6 ways, so even if the price was $100 cheaper, that's only a savings of $16.67 /person. Also, I did a google search on "used vanagon ECU for sale" and found an old listing, on this list, for $300. I then figured I had gotten a good deal on the ECU I bought, but that was from someone I know. Hey they were lucky to be only 7 miles from a place that knew what a vanagon ECU was, never mind have one!

Thanks to everyone for their support so far - really, really great.

Also thanks to those helping me with my recent thermostat and coolant pipes quagmires - something these AirCooled boys need not worry about.

Happy trails, John LiMBO 86 Wolfsburg Westfalia "Weekender" Massachusetts
