Thanks everybody for the responses and keep them coming if anybody else has some feedback. Max, sounds like a great system. My daily driver 2002 Golf has the Monsoon from the factory which is the best sound of any car I've owned. And that is probably not as good as a custom built system like you are talking about. I really am just looking for an upgrade from the stock 23 year old speakers. I think most anything will be significant improvement! I have tinnitus, so can't really listen to anything loud, but would like to overcome the road noise and not have to turn the bass down to the stock speakers don't pop all the time.
