Henry N. Manney is ...no kidding .......the Jimi Hendrix of automtove writing ... way, WAY out there. He uses French now and then.....sometimes not sure what he's saying ......but there is always the feeling that I'm reading a genious, and I should rise up to the level of what he's writing. oh........and I just LOVE this ...........he could write a sentence about two paragraphs long ..... and I'd look at it, carefully..........and it was a correct sentence........and it wouldn't really be run-on sentences. or something that should really be two to five sentences.........the man was brilliant, and funny. Sometimes I couldn't even get what he was saying. He wrote for Road & Track magazine for many years. Reported on the European racing scene in the 60's. He is my all time top auto writer for sure. Whoever is in second place behind Henry, is so far back there it doesn't count.

sure ........Setright is a great auto writer. And Egan ..........he has this quality ............and I'm sure it's very strong in his presence........he's very likable. He's just 'fun' ....... plus he's a damn good writer too..........but with Peter, it's more about his interesting subjects..............and his style is fine ....... but I don't read him for *the writing* per se. Henry I would, any day. You could read a piece by Henry Manney 10 times and find more in it, and more to get out of it each time. He's in a whole class by himself in my opinion.

but he did not write about vanagons ! and it's not friday . lol. but I'm so glad you appreciate him. he called himself 'your humble servant' ......spelled as you would yourself would spell it jake, ...........either YHS, or 'yr humbl servnt' .......something like that. I beleive your version says 'your lowly and obedient servant.' Ah, Henry M. Manney III - I still miss that man and his wonderful writing.

LJK Setright was brilliant and Peter Egan's amusing but..........
