Six Guys in a van are attracting the interest of the Vanagon Community this
weekend as they set out for what might well be a cross country adventure.
Hearkening back to the old days when we sat on our porches, camped over
night in our back yards and generally hung about in dark places to catch a
glimpse of the latest Russian or American satellite, these plucky young boys
have rekindled an age once thought forgotten. Unlike early space travelers
our Intrepid Six find a host of ready helpers on-hand when ever there is
breakdown or a mechanical mishap. Tow trucks and Vanagon Rescue Squads
gather like goodwill foragers, ready to assist the weary and out of fuel or
tired and flat.
Thousands of miles lay out before the boys who will certainly not be the
same lads they were. Changes will occur daily and deed by the moment as
lifetime friendships, resentments and fortunes are forged on the anvil of
close quarters and long days of disappointing despair and unfathomable joy.
There is no way to know what sort of men these fellows would be cast as if
they had never set out but we can be sure of certain facts. They have set
out and by doing so have changed the height of their own shadow forever.
Godspeed boys. As a community of your peers cheer your coming of age and
your spirit.
