Sorry to hear about the accident. I'm somewhat surprised - $9k isn't that unreasonable an offer for an '85 with high mileage. When my '89 was crushed by a falling tree, Nationwide started by offering me around $3000. We settled at $12k, but it was newer, fully loaded with options and add-ons, and had a rebuilt engine and trans. You might be able to use comps, etc. to get Geico to go a bit higher, but frankly even $9k it isn't completely out of line. I'd definitely recommend buying it back for $1000, too; certainly the parts are worth a few grand if you have the time to remove them.
