Neil,

It looks like a little surface corrosion to me, not something that would compromise the integrity of the tubing. Get down there with a pocket knife and give it a few light scrapes. If you don't see bright copper under it after easy scraping, you have a problem. If not, some steel wool--or nothing--will be OK. It's probably an appearance thing. If it were on your copper roof they'd call it verdigris and you'd pay handsomely to get it.

Now that's a thought... a copper roof on a westy. Hmmm.
