Yep, if the van part of the trip has to end at least Las Vegas offers a lot of transportation options.

I wish them well and hope for the best but a gas station seems an unlikely place for any real problem on an old Vanagon to get fixed on a reasonable basis. Maybe it will be something simple and they will be honest enough to deal with it fairly.

If parts are needed a gas station is unlikely to have or get many of them before the weekday parts network is open. That makes it seem better to just wait till a real VW shop can do the work. I understand that time pressures may argue for a roll of the dice but snake eyes are a looming possibility.

I broke down myself in Vegas some years ago and needed a tranny fast for a BMW325. Though I called all around to find a shop with experience and who had the part available and said they could do it right away, they still managed to string me along and fleece me as best they could knowing I was in a bind.
