Fill the main pressure bottle right to the tippy top, cold. Then fill the license plate bottle until it flows our where the cap is ........like half full.

Coolant goes in and out of the pressure bottle. It's normal state is 'almost full' ..........like a one inch air space at the top of it , is fine and normal. If it's using coolant .......... and your van is obviously using coolant slowly ........it should suck coolant out of the license plate bottle when cooling down. As the engine warms up ..........the coolant expands and the 'extra' is pushed into the license bottle, then sucked back during cool down. I see many vanagons that use about a small cup of water a month, if driven say, 3 or 4 times a week, like around town. So the normal thing to do is just check the license plate bottle.........and if it's low, add 50/50 anti-frz/water.

The coolant should really be changed and treated though.

Hello,

My van has been being used minimally for the last year. My dad was not on the ball about checking the coolant and I found that the overflow tank was dry and the internal fill tank the level was right at the "min" line. What is the proper way to refill the inner tank I don't see a max fill line.

Any help would be appriciated, as I am heading out for a road trip soon!!

Regards,

WPL
