Subject: Water pump replacement - anything else I need?
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1; format=flowed

So it looks like I am in order for a water pump replacement. Last Monday we were heading back from the Omaha VW Club show and the Vanagon ('86 2.1ltr) was driving well until we pulled off of the interstate exit at home. At that point, the Battery/Oxs light flickered on (engine still running) and we could see steam pouring from the engine compartment. I shut down the van and coasted to a stop. I just got a chance to look at the problem today and the water pump pulley has a lot of slack and the pump makes a grinding sound when the engine is running.

Anyways - I was just wondering if there is anything else I should replace while replacing the water pump and if there is a special way to go about changing the pump out while the engine is in the van. I'm about to place the order to Van Cafe and would like to get all of the parts at once.

Thanks in advance, Andrew
