Could well be a charging problem -- bad brushes maybe? Check system voltage while the light is on, see if it's charging -- that is, after all, what the light is supposed to be telling you.

(Any time the ALT light is on, the OXS light will also be on -- that's for bulb-test purpose.)

Unplug the coolant level controller -- if it still behaves that way, the problem is internal to the gauge.

Intermittent connection somewhere...trace the wiring after it's quit but with the key still on, see where it's dropping out.

It's not "supposed" to, but it's quite ordinary that it does. The reason is that the 7-amp draw of the DC heating element shifts the fridge ground level slightly positive, which has the same effect as the thermocouple input going negative (as it does when it's in the flame).
