In general I *think* vomiting is a good sign, though of course it's quite an inconvenience at the moment. Also, I have to wonder if the barrier would make it much more likely that the guy would aspirate (breathe) vomitus, which is an instant recipe for deadly pneumonia -- that's why the surgeons are so serious about having an empty stomach before anesthesia.
