Anyway now that I'm in there I noticed that the cable that operates the
right side defroster vent was broke off where it attaches to the slider. I
haven't seen a cable for sale on line. I'm wondering if I can push the wire
through to that side enough to expose some beyond the sheethe and make the
bend my self to re-attach it? Not sure if there's enough wire to do this
I've done this ..........by pulling the inner cable pretty far back,
chopping off an inch of outer cable..............then slide the inner cable
back in all the way, and to put a small bend or two in the end........heat
the cable with a torch .....propane will do, to get it red hot and it'll
bend, like with a needle noise pliers, very nicely.
I lube the speedo cable by undoing it at the top, jacking up the left front
wheel, and turn the wheel with my foot while I feed synthetic spary grease
into the speedo cable. Or .......you can do it driving down the road too,
if you dare to.
guage issue make 'voltage stablizer' pop into my mind.........small thingey
on the back of the instrument cluster. Bentley tells about it.
for any mechism that moves like wipers ...........spray synthetic grease
........many good ones avaiable. Prolong, Gunk brand with PTFE , etc.
On almost anything that moves.
shouldn't be too hard to make sure battery power is getting to the cig
lighter. It's full time, 'battery power'......key doesn't need to be on.
knowing the year of the vanagon helps too, with making suggestions for
things to do or check.
