re " The 2 hinge straps need holes and > there are I think at least 2 of the base holes than can be drilled and > bolted through the floor."

Sounds strange to me. I put a Z bed into an 85 2WD vanagon ....... it bolted right in, with the exception of those bolt like things that stick out of the sides of the van, that the top of the rear seat latches to. Those weren't in the right place. But the seat works fine ............in both modes, seat and bed ..........the seat back isn't latched firmly, is all that's not perfect. I'll be lifting up the side paneling to see if the right threaded holes are in the body .........they should be. But I sure didn't bolt anything to the floor, not drilling or anything like that.

I'm surprised your 87 syncro is like that Brendan. Is it a regular 'full' US model ? is it a GL ? ..........perhaps it's a non-GL 7 passenger one, and that's why it has the lame rear seat set up. And you're SURE, right ? the seat back will flip forward ..........like the earlier non-Z bed seat backs will.

Also..........a major advantage of the Z bed, just as a seat, never mind it being a bed...........it's flat-ish on the bottom, like a couch is,.........so you can sit on it here or there, like you would camping or eathing inside. The non Z bed rear seat .............the GL ones for sure ........are made like 3 bucket seats, which is not conducive to sitting there at your table drinking your coffee, where'd you'd rather have a flat couch like thing. scott www.turbovans.com
