There is access; it's just rather challenging.  A probe wire
supporting a tube carrying lubricant can be bent into a creative shape
and brought in thru the front after removing the air inlet screen.  A
very small video camera can let you see what's going on.  I was
succesful with this approach about 6 years ago.  (Archives: posts #
236412 and 236417)
  Since my fan is starting to squeal a little again it might be time
for another application.

I have also seen something on this list about drilling a hole thru the
sheet metal that you see when you remove the intake screen.  The trick
is to know where to drill.
