On my '81, the fan itself is held tight in place by the two halves of the heater housing assembly. Pretty sure it's the same for other model years. UNlikely your fan has come loose inside the box.

Some pics. You can sort of see the seal around fan where it seats in place. If you zoom in on the last pic, you can see the manufacture name AEG and West Germany. Pretty sure a new fan will not be made by same company.

From what I've read, "OEM" doesn't always mean a given OEM part is made by the original manufacturer who made it for the vehicle when it was new.
