No problem in the LP regulator. Oxygen and grease or oil don't get along & can explode.

This weekend I am working over my lp tank, getting it ready to have the valve (and now certainly the regulator) replaced. Taking things apart I found some thin but very dark (black) grease in the bottom of the regulator and inside the 3-way fitting on the end of it. I was under the impression that you should not have any grease or oil in the gas delivery. A search of the archives didn't turn up any mention of this before. Is this a sign of something else? Should I suspect that this grease could have gotten as far as my fridge?
