I seem to recall Scott Daniels (of turbo vans) posts regarding a cooling system additive that helps lubricate parts. Sorry. Can't recall brand/application etc.

Assuming water pump is making the noise, you might want to search the archives under his name. If this stuff is suitable for this, it may help "nurse" the pump along.
