Hi Mike,

Rough up the metal shaft a bit with some side cutting pliers, then force the gear back onto it. That method of repair has lasted for about 15,000 mile on my odometer.

Another great adhesive for plastic-metal is a cyanoacrylate-based superglue. ("KrazyGlue" etc) My scout troop uses CA glue to bond propellers to motor shafts on model planes we build, and we rarely lose a prop without it being related to some sort of impact.
